Lucy Maciejewski Preston, age 61, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, surrounded by her family and upheld by the love, support, and prayers of the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.

Born on February 2, 1965, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Robert Maciejewski and Lucille Mazurkiewicz. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rick Maciejewski, her sister JoAnne Maciejewski, and her nephew, Keith Maciejewski. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Rachael Macklin (Evan Macklin) and Allison Preston-Smith (Kyle Smith); her cherished granddaughters, Gabrielle, Savannah, and Mariana Macklin; her sisters, Mary Manglitz, Theresa Madura, and Judy Maciejewski; her brothers, Bob Maciejewski, Tom Maciejewski, and Mark Maciejewski; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and community members.
Lucy touched countless lives through her generosity and unwavering compassion. To know her was to know kindness in action. Selfless and caring, she devoted herself to helping others and creating a welcoming space wherever she went. Her warmth, hospitality, and genuine love for people left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Lucy took great pride in her Polish heritage and was honored to serve as the 2023 Busia Queen for the Grand Rapids Polish Heritage Society. During her reign, she founded Busia’s Boutique at Jackson Street Hall, a ministry dedicated to providing clothing, toys, and diapers to children and families in need. The project reflected her deep love for children and her commitment to serving her community.

A woman of adventure and joy, Lucy loved to travel and create lasting memories with family and friends. She was an extraordinary hostess who opened both her home and her heart to others. Holidays, birthdays, and family gatherings were filled with love and magic, along with laughter, warmth, and thoughtful details that only Lucy could create. She was known for her fabulous style and her sugar cookies that were as beautifully decorated as they were delicious.
Above all, Lucy was devoted to her daughters and granddaughters, who were the pride and joy of her life. She celebrated every accomplishment, showered them with love, and treasured every moment spent together.

Lucy will be remembered for her tenacious spirit, radiant smile, and joyful laughter. Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, devoted sister, encouraging aunt, loyal friend, and compassionate servant of her community. Her legacy lives on in the countless people she helped, encouraged, and loved.

May Lucy rest in peace and be draped in the loving arms of the Holy Father. Lucy and I go back all the way to first grade and beyond. I had recently ran into her and she was so excited about this new chapter in her life. She bragged about the accomplishments of her daughters and grandchildren. You could see the love and pride in her eyes as she spoke about all of you! May her soul rest in peace and may you find comfort in the loving memories that you shared and find comfort that you will be reunited one day in heaven.

Lucy was my "backyard buddy" and we would stand in our yard and chat every time we saw each other puttering in the yard. Probably just a delay tactic to put off pulling weeds on both our parts. We would exchange plants, plot trips to garden stores and just enjoy nature and each other's company. She was a beautiful soul and I will miss her. I hope her family will find peace and that her memory will be a blessing.

Lucy was a kind and generous woman who I had known from growing up next door to her family. I even watched that home being built and from time to time babysat her girls . She was always so welcoming and kind to me and made me feel at home . Lifting the family up in prayers and feeling blessed to have known her.

Lucy was a joyful woman whom I had the pleasure of knowing growing up. Her family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers throughout this difficult time. May her life continue to bless those closest to her though she has gained her wings.

Lucy, may you rest in peace in God's Loving Arms after your beautiful life and terrible death. I didn't know you, but read the story about you here in Florida. I was hoping you would survive, but just saw the sad news about your passing. God needed you in Heaven. May He give peace, strength and comfort to your Family. 🙏 ❤️
