Steven Paul Goss, age 65, of Kentwood, answered his final alarm on Monday, August 3, 2020, and was brought to his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Goss; and his uncle, Robert Palmer. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Angela with whom he shared 29 years; son, Robert and Jennifer Goss; grandchildren, Braydin and Devin Goss; parents-in-law, Cecil and Denise Lambers; sister-in-law, Erin and Chris Lewis; brother-in-law, Jeremy and Erin Lambers; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Greg, Ashley, Kayne, and Kyla; special cousins, Robert and David Peterson. Steve was a life-long member of the Wyoming Fire Department.  When Steve was a young boy, he would run across DeHoop to watch the engines pull out of the station when there was a call; he would visit the guys at the station and help clean hoses.  Firefighting was in Steve’s blood and he was proud to serve his community in the capacity of firefighter, equipment operator and then Lieutenant.  He was quoted as saying, “This is the best job in the world, kid.  Don’t ever take it for granted.” Steve was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved to dote over his grandsons.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor John Nauta officiating. The number of people allowed to attend the service will be limited however the service will be live streamed on the MKD website. Just go to the bottom of the MKD home page and click on the “watch recorded service here” tab.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Due to gathering restrictions the number of people allowed to enter the building at one time will be limited and face masks will be required. Memorial contributions may be made to Neighbors United.

Hi Angdla. I write this with a very heavy heart. I got to knew Steve while he was in High School and took a liking to him at that time. When he finally joined the Wyoming Fire Dept I was happy to finally work with him. I kinda looked at Steve as my Kid Brother. He was the true spirit of a Firefighter and always jumped in to help where ever he could. I think everytime Steve had to go to the hospital from a fire, I was the one that went with him. I had to call his mother several times to have her come to the emergency room at the hospital. She always appreciated me watching over her son. He will be greatly missed in life and in our hearts. He fought a great battle. Everyone of us that are Firefighters are always one call away from death, but it never bothered him. He was a brave Firefighter and I was proud to have served with him. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be with you tomorrow in person, but I will be with you in spirit and on the streaming program. May God bless you all in the days ahead. You will not be alone!

Steve was a great guy. I was very blessed to have Steve and Angela as neighbors for many years. Steve was always helpful and a great role model for my son, Jake as Jake still went to see Steve as an adult. He will always be in our hearts. My love and prayers for Angela and the family.

Dear Angie and Family, You have our deepest sympathies during this difficult time of great loss. I have numerous, enjoyable memories of working with Steve from the day I started in the Wyoming Fire Department to the day he retired. I am so thankful for those memories and the lessons learned from him. Sadly I am out of town and unable to attend Steve's funeral service. However, I will be there in thought and prayer.

Angela my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Steve and I have been friends for many years. He was dedicated to you and family. He also had great passion for the career he dreamed of all his life. I know he is no longer suffering. He is looking down and trying to figure out how to care for all the people he loved and served.
