Robert Richard Humphrey Jr., age 62, of Wyoming, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Patricia, and John. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of four years, Kay Humphrey; children, Zach Humphrey, Cloie Humphrey; grandson Tidus Tagg; Bob’s twin sister, Roberta (James) Smith; sister, Cindi Brier; four stepchildren; extended family and friends. Bob retired from the U.S. Army. Bob was most proud of his running career from running with the Army and then continuing after that to almost qualifying for the Olympics. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, February 4, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. A private family graveside service will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the U.S. Army Relief Fund or the Metro Health Cancer Center.

Remembering Bob Humphrey, his family and friends today. Sorry for your loss. I remember that Bob's Mom would try to take as many of her kids when she could to our rural church in Upstate New York when services were held. Bob and his siblings were usually there for VBS in the Spring. Although we didn't see each other as much in high school due to our different classes, we saw each other at the church or in our small town. Bob graduated H.S. and went into the Army a half year before I went into the Air Force. My wife and I became close friends with him and his wife after I was assigned to a joint services base in England. He was a constant optimist. If there was anything you needed, Bob was right there for you. We'll miss him, but we'll always have fond memories forever. - Tom and Pam Cleveland

I met Bob through our love of running, when he was posted to the UK. I have fond memories of Bob as a dedicated soldier and family man. Bob and his family welcomed me to America and we had many fun times especially in Chicago. I always have a smile when I recall Bob's face, when I went running and got lost whilst on holiday in Maryland. Bob will be sadly missed, a man taken too early by an all too familiar disease. Lovely tribute to Bob. Remember him from school and he sure has not changed much. He looks like he enjoyed life and sad to see he is gone at a young age. Thank you for your years of service and may you R.I.P.

I fondly remember Bob as BIL, he was my Brother In Law. He was hard working, always seemed to have a smile and silly at times even though he wanted to seem straight laced. Bob was generous and patient when he let me, then 19, live with him & my sister, Cindy, in England. He helped build my passion for travel by taking time to go on a camping trip all around Scotland and then Germany. He was fun to travel with again, always seemed to be smiling. He again was generous and patient with letting me come live with them in Maryland right after Zach was born. Bob often had a quiet pride that would beam in his smile as he watched Zach and Cloie grow and do their activities. Bob will be missed dearly. We are so sad but will hold a smile in remembrance of him.
