Richard Roskam

September 10, 1961 ~
March 5, 2026

Richard Allan Roskam, age 64, of Hudsonville, was unexpectedly called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Micah 6:8 says, “And what does the Lord require of you? To do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Rich loved this verse and lived out these words every day of his life. He constantly put others before himself, and always worked hard to serve them, whether it was helping them with projects around their house, washing their car, or making them feel welcome at church. Rich's mission in life was to show them the love of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Janet Roskam; and father-in-law, Robert Swanson. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Carol Roskam; children, Allison (Phillip) Warner, Dirk Roskam; granddaughter, Ellie Warner; siblings Nancy (Mark) Hill, Ron Roskam, Kevin (Char) Roskam; mother-in-law, Dorothy Swanson; sisters-in-law, Robin Swanson, Nina (Matt) VanHeulen; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, in The ResCenter at ResLife Church, 5100 Ivanrest Ave. SW, Grandville. Please enter through doors E or H. The burial will take place at Maplewood Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday, March  9, from 5-7 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Afghanistan/Pakistan Fund through ResLife Church in memory of Rich.

Rich was one of our sales reps for over 10 years. We always looked forward to Rich coming to our showroom! Every time he visited, he brightened our day and shared a verse or something about God's Good News. We'll never forget his warm, smirky, friendly smile! Praying for peace and comfort for you and your family as you mourn. With fond memories and our deepest sympathy, The Jagers

I would like to express my condolences to Carol, Allison (Philip and Ellie), Dirk, and to my cousins Nancy, Ronald, and Kevin on the loss of Richard. Although I only met Rich a few times (me living in the Netherlands and quite a few years younger) there is a family bond that you still feel in circumstances like these. The stories and photos from the past also remind me of his parents, my Uncle Gary (Germ) and aunt Janet (Coba) who have been here many times at our house. During the family reunion in the Netherlands in 2014, I spent a few days with Rich, and afterwards we sometimes kept in touch via email. Now, just after watching the funeral service with all the memories, I have gained a more complete picture of the man he has been. His energy, service to others, and his love for God are things we can take as an example.

I was blessed to serve with Rich and Carol at Resurrection Life Usher ministry. They are both salt of the earth Godly Christians who love to serve. And they both are Lions fans. My heart breaks for Carol and family and I have joy and a bit of envy knowing that Rich is in Paradise. Rich is my Brother in Jesus Christ and we will all see our brother again. May the God of Peace hold the entire Roskam family in His loving arms, in Jesus name we ask.

Dear cousin Rich, We met like 6 times in person, there was literally an ocean between us, but as for as I remember we always had great times together. My English was and isn’t perfect so communication wasn’t always easy and you especially hated it when I called you nephew instead of cousin and even more when I said “Yes, but Rich you are a month younger than me”. You were younger but always a head of me in lots of aspects in life, you could walk as a child like 5 months earlier than me, you were faster and better than me in every sport, when you could dive in the water I could only jump. Our talks about our common faith and the channels you recommended me to listen too, helped me a lot and no we didn’t agree in every theological nitty gritty but we recognized each other as brothers in Christ and no not as nephews. I take comfort in knowing that one day we will meet again. My deepest condolences and prayers to Carol, Allison and Dirk

Rich was such a light! I can't imagine the void he will be leaving. As a coworker I enjoyed talking to Rich and listening to his wonderful stories. Always ending the the conversation in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His energy to bring people to truth has taught me to do the same. He will be missed. How honored I feel that our paths crossed. You all are in my prayers. My Gods blessing be upon you. -Ali

Rich was a great Grainger team member. He had such a humble approach to everything he did and his positivity was so admired. As a seller, I would have bought anything from him! 😊 He will be missed and his encouragement will live on in all of us. I want to extend my sympathy to his wife, children and family. I pray God would be near to you and shine his love into your hearts.

Rich you have been one of the most positive, uplifting souls I have ever met. You joining my sales team at Grainger was such a blessing in disguise. Your impact and energy will never be forgotten. I’m truly going to miss you Rich. You modeled a life for Jesus and I thank you for that. (I will keep rooting on our Spartans for us also.) My deepest condolences to Carol and your family.

I did not know Rich very long, but from the little I knew Rich his devotion to faith was like no other person I have ever known. He would begin his conversations with me every time I saw him at SpartanNash by saying he was blessed. Rich, we are all blessed to have you in our lives in one form or another. GOD needed another angel, and he choose you. If we are only as lucky as you are, we will see the gates of heaven. RIP my friend. Fermin Herrera & Family Maintenance Manager SpartanNash

It was truly a pleasure having Rich Grainger team. One thing I learned very quickly was how much he loved God—he was a man of strong faith and was never afraid to share who he believed in. Rich was always kind and pleasant, and it was always nice seeing him at our meetings. My heartfelt condolences to his family. I take comfort in knowing he is now with the Lord and Savior he believed in so deeply. 🙏 Stephanie Miley

People can be judged by how they treat others in service to them. Rich treated us at Sparan Nash with joyous respect and consideration each day. Rich would make connections with us at the guard house about wise affirmations, how we spend our weekends and how much gratitude we have for what we have in life. He sounded like he was loved dearly, and it showed through how he treated me. My deepest condolences to his many loved ones.

Rich had such a kind heart and was so sincerely welcoming when we first met him. We can't imagine the heartache that his family is experiencing, yet the unimaginable joy he is experiencing right now, brings such hope for all of us who have placed our faith in Jesus as he did. Rich, you will be missed. See you later brother. Mike and Rachel Green
