Elizabeth Anne Stevens, 61, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on December 5, 2013 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. On Thanksgiving Day, she celebrated Christmas with her family. Despite her illness, she had managed to create a magical and meaningful holiday for them that they will treasure forever. Liz was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 3, 1952 to Thomas and Ruth O'Keefe. She grew up with five siblings in Wyoming, Michigan and graduated from Wyoming Park High School. In 1970, she married Scott D. Stevens and together they had three kids. Eventually, they moved their family to a home on Little Pine Island Lake in Comstock Park, Michigan. Liz was a dedicated Mom and homemaker and not-your-typical Grandma to nine "perfect" grandkids. She was extremely creative and especially gifted in the art of embroidery. For many years, she ran a successful online business on Etsy, Two Left Hands, where she sold her beautiful creations all over the world. Liz is survived by her husband of 43 years, Scott "Bingo" Stevens; her three kids, Natalie (Gary) Kibbe, Thomas Stevens, and Sarah Byerley, all of Comstock Park; her nine adoring grandkids, Rianne Stevens, Mackenzie Kibbe, Seanie Stevens, Nathan Meinke, Noah Kibbe, Reese Stevens, Caden Byerley, Little Tommy Stevens, and Peyton Byerley; her mom, Ruth O'Keefe; her siblings, Steffie DeVries, Mike (Julie) O'Keefe, Mark (Sue) O'Keefe, Shannon (Don) Mekkes, and David (Amanda) O'Keefe. Liz was preceded in death by her dad, Thomas O'Keefe, and her beloved dog, Buddee. She always held a special place in her heart for her Grandma Berggren. Liz will always be remembered for her magnetic personality, her sense of humor, and her ability to laugh through the toughest of times. She made the best pot of goulash, with love, of course, played a mean game of scribble lines, and always made a big deal of the last swim of the summer, even if it was not the very last one. She loved her family wholeheartedly and unconditionally. She shared a unique bond with each of her kids and grandkids and created memorable traditions with them that will be passed on through many generations. Liz's friends and family meant the world to her. They will miss her deeply. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 9 at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. NE. The family will greet relatives and friends Sunday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Interment Alpine Pine Grove Cemetery.
