Melbourne “Mel” D. Krul, age 80, of Grandville, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, while surrounded by his family. He served his country in the Navy for four years and was privileged to be a driver for Steelcase for 32 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Donna (Groothuis) Krul; his children and precious grandchildren, James and Michelle Krul (Jonathan, Joscelyn, Matthew), Julie and Don Van Solkema (Ross, Anne), Melissa and Steve Postma (Michael, Benjamin), Jayne and Craig Vandenbos (Sarah, Sydney, Stacie); sister, Ruth Mulder; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jackie Groothuis, Shirley Kosters, Larry and Nancy Groothuis, Harvey Veldhouse, Judy and Dave Hopkins, Nancee and Brian Ritsema; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Hope Christian Reformed Church, 3110 Barrett St. SW, Grandville, with Rev. Dale Fopma officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Sunset Legacy Foundation (Brookcrest), where Mel lived for 8 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookcrest for the love and care given to Mel.

My sympathies in Mel's passing. I had the pleasure of getting to know Mel while visiting my grandparents at Brookcrest. Mel was always interested in talking with us, especially about my past PH connection, and was especially kind toward my grandma after my grandpa's passing last November. They are now all with the Lord as Grandma passed in July. My thoughts are with your family. Marcy

Just thinking about Mr. Krul (Mel) last week as its close to my moms passing. Loved too stop and have a fun chat! He was always greeting people in lobby of Brookcrest! You have my sympathy and my family also!!

Donna, we are so sorry for your loss. It was always a joy to visit with Mel and/or you when we took my mom (Agnes) for a walk around the halls of Brookcrest or when he greeted us as we came in the front door. He had such a positive outlook on life, and always seemed to be filled with joy and a genuine love for the Lord. We will miss him! Remembering you and your family in thoughts and prayers.

“Emily, what’s the good word?” Mel, you asked me this almost daily. I always had a smart remark for him. You are with the Lord and I know that’s the greatest place you can be. Donna, I have loved sharing the stories of the growth of my family with you and Mel. I will miss his greetings, stories and heartfelt thank yous he made sure to get in, especially when he knew we needed them most. Brookcrest will not be the same without him.

Dear Donna, my heart goes out to you and your lovely family. Mel was my husbands room mate for 14 months, Dave Graby. They became over the months like brothers. I can never thank Mel and Donna enough for their caring friendship. I am sure by now, Mel and Dave will be enjoying their re- union. God bless Mel and Dave.

Donna, I am so sorry for your loss. Mel was such a sweet and kind man. I’m so glad that I got to know both of you during Mel’s first few years at Brookcrest. Mel would always hold my hand and thank me every time he saw me for getting him into Brookcrest. So sweet! Prayers for you and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will always have a special place in my heart for Mel. He always sat by my med cart, jokingly saying, "I have to be near Linda because I feel safe". No one will be able to fill that spot. I know he is at peace now. He is already missed by many!

God Bless All at this time, I got too meet Mel by bringing a friend of mine too Brookcrest a few years ago too sing too everyone..His name was Hilmar and Hilmar and Mel became good buddies..Mel was always pleasant too talk with and I'm sure he will be Missed by all..take care and Sorry for your loss..

Donna, My heart & prayers are with you & your family. Our hearts are aching with grief. Mel & you are like a part of our family. Mel & my dad shared a special bond, and Mel was such a blessing to Dad. "Shalom!" they each greeted each other daily. And my own brother Ron & nephew Mark were always so blessed in their visits. I am so saddened by this news! Mel was such a great person. I had the pleasure of caring for him when I worked at Brookcrest. I'm happy I got to see him 2 weeks ago with a big smile on his face sitting in the lobby. Donna, you and your family are in my prayers! Mel will be missed by so many!
