John R. “Bob” Bogema

John R. “Bob” Bogema, age 90, of Jenison, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Ruth Grooters - Bogema. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years, Carol Deters - Bogema; children, Mary Lou Bogema, Patricia Ann and Martin Vonk, Kay Ellen and Bruce Wolters, David and Karen Deters, Debra Deters and Jeff Kolk; grandchildren, Erin Deters and Bill McDowell, Justin and Katrina Deters, Abby Deters and fiance Ronnie Nowicki, Tyler Wolters; sisters-in-law and brother in law, Gladys Kessel, Leanore and Peter Peterson,  Joan Formsma; several nieces and nephews. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. John was the happiest surrounded by his family at their cottage on Millhouse bayou and at family dinners. He was a partner in the family owned business, Grooters Quality Foods. John was an active member of Fifth Reformed Church in Grand Rapids.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 11 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Rev. Jon Sherrill officiating.  Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice or to Sunset Legacy Foundation.
