John Potente, age 71, of Grandville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He enjoyed spending time walking his dog, reading books, laughing with his friends and family, and quoting lines from movies. John loved helping others, especially in his career as a chiropractor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Frances Potente; and brother, Walter F. Potente. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Bonnie Potente; son, Mitchell Potente; siblings, Nancy and Joseph Ponsi, Virginia and David Kardell, Anita and Ronald Killcrece; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. The burial will take place at Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, October 29, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Humane Society of West Michigan.

What a shock. I tired calling the office looked online to see if I had it wrong. Came across his obituary. So sorry for this huge loss for you all. He talked about you both, loved you so much. He'll be missed by us all. Sorry I was at the service.

I stood in shock by Dr. Potente's door today. For 23 years I've been welcomed with his smile and kind demeanor, more like visiting a friend than a doctor. Bonnie and Mitchell, I feel like I knew you because he talked about you often - always with pride and thankfulness for you. We shared a love for reading and food. He loved to talk about Jesus and would regularly share scripture texts on the sovereignty of God and what he'd discovered in Bible studies and readings. I will miss these conversations. My heart goes out to you and your family in this tremendous loss of husband, father, and friend. I pray you would find peace and comfort in knowing that he is in heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My deepest condolences to you all.

Bonnie and Mitchell, please know that my thought of "Doc" is his laughing and joking with me in his office. We had a special relationship and I enjoyed him immensely. He helped me maintain a healthy body and always told me " Dean, you have to learn to slow down". Know that he always spoke lovingly and proudly of you two. This leaves a hole in my heart...Dean M
