James Lee Higgins, Sr., age 60, of Caledonia, went to be with his Lord on, Saturday, April 7, 2018 after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Pat Higgins; brother-in-law, Michael VanDorp; sister-in-law, Jamie Winter. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Reneé; children, James Lee and Jen Higgins, Jr., Ashley Marie and Curtis Kooienga, Heather Reneé and AJ Almy, Kaleigh Droog; grandchildren, Sophie, Colton, Landon; brothers and sisters, Tom and Sharon Higgins, Jan and Ed Neuman, Michael and Lu Higgins, Susan VanDorp, Ann and Les Conklin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Myrt Kerkstra; sister-in-law, Mickey and Rick Bidwell; Steve Winter; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Caledonia), 616 Main Street, with Pastor Phil Courtright officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the memorial service. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Mel Trotter Ministries.

Higgins & Kerkstra family, Jim will be greatly missed and It was my honor to have had the privilege to know him throughout the years, I cherish the moments we had together. He is a person of great inspiration and encouragement to myself, Jamie, Kaleigh and Zachary. He made a difference in our lives and the many others he has touched throughout the years. Very sad to hear about my old friend James. I've been trying to reconnect for some time and just found him again. Nice to see that he had a big family that obviously loved him dearly. So many good memories from the old days. Loved his humor! My condolences to Renee and the rest of the family.
