Calvin Ray Stroud

August 13, 1953 ~
August 7, 2025

Calvin Stroud, age 71, of Byron Center went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 7, 2025. He lived a full and meaningful life, dedicating his life to God, the Navy, his family and friends. He was known for his hard work, faith and kindness that touched the lives of many through his community, work, friendships and hobbies. If anyone ever needed anything, Calvin would be the first to help out however he could. He would give you the shirt off his back.

His family are those he chose. Calvin was strong willed and opinionated, holding to his core beliefs. He made people laugh, telling stories and jokes. He would go through the drive through and was able to make the employees laugh and next thing you know, the food was on the house.

Calvin was a member of Kentwood’s Volunteer Police. VIP. Volunteering to help any and all. He was a member of the US Chess Foundation. He also called Bingo for Kentwood’s Park and Recreation. He was great with fire arms and target shooting. Calvin proudly served in the US Navy. Retiring after many years of service to our country.

A memorial service honoring Calvin’s life will be held 2 pm Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood. Following the service, family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend at Unity Reformed Church, 4450 Poinsettia Ave. SE, Kentwood. Though he is no longer with us, the Calvin Stroud’s legacy of love, faith and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Calvin always had a sense of humor. He would tell funny stories in various voices. If you needed a laugh, he would gladly give you one. I will miss his insight and his heart.

Grandpa Calvin always managed to light up every room he went in. I remember the extra large ice cream cones from Weinerschnziel he would treat us with after school, or the crazy outfits and pranks he'd surprise us with on Halloween. He would talk your ear off for hours and enjoy every second of it. Thanks for being such a light in many lives.. I know you will continue to look over everyone with joy. God bless and we love you!

My dad was the definition of a hardworking and honorable man. He never hesitated to give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, and he lived his life with quiet strength and generosity. He served his country with pride and his family with love, and his example will continue to guide me every day. His legacy is not only in the work he did, but in the kindness, sacrifice, and love he gave so freely. I love you Dad! Joshua
