Andrew Swanson

May 16, 2009 ~
July 6, 2025

Andrew James Swanson, aged 16, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2025. He was born on May 16, 2009, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Andrew and his older brother, CJ, shared a passion for playing soccer from a very young age and continued it into their high school careers. Most recently, Andrew played for the South Christian Sailors, CJ for the Unity Christian Crusaders, and both for AYSO United. Their mutual love of the game translated into their close relationship off the field as well.

Andrew had a talent for developing video games for the computer with his on-line community, watching movies (especially the Harry Potter series with his dad), going on vacations with his family, and spending time with his friends. He enjoyed cooking, making and eating nachos, taking naps, riding roller coasters (the Kraken at Sea World topped the list), listening to music, and drinking Monster drinks.  He was reflective and thoughtful about many challenging issues. He cared for those who were on the outside, possessed a kind heart, and was deeply interested about his relationship with God. Andrew will be remembered for his quick sense of humor, his love of laughing, his loyalty to his friends, and being a fierce competitor.  He will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to know him.

Andrew will be forever remembered by his parents, Chuck and Faith (Osbeck) Swanson; his brother, CJ Swanson; and his grandmothers, Gloria Osbeck and Charlene Swanson. He will be greatly missed by his aunts and uncles, Mike and Theresa Osbeck, Tim and Jill Osbeck, Shannah (Swanson) Havens, and all his cousins and friends. Andrew was deeply loved by those who preceded him in death - his grandfathers, Russell Osbeck and Charles Swanson Sr, and uncle, Gene Havens.

Family and friends are invited to visit the family on Thursday, July 10 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr, Grandville, MI 49418.

Funeral services for Andrew will be held at Ada Bible Church (Kentwood Campus), 2045 68th Street SE, Caledonia, MI 49316 on Friday, July 11 at 11am, with an opportunity to greet the family an hour before.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests your remembrances of Andrew be made to South Christian High School’s Foundation Fund or AYSO United. Envelopes will be made available at MKD and Ada Bible Church.

Andrew James Swanson was nothing short of my bestest friend. My deepest condolences go out for him and his family, and I feel so miserable that I could not have been there for him before or at the time of his passing. Andrew was the Joint-Project Lead of our game that we had been working on for the last three years. We'd been friends for many years before that, dating back to 2018-19. I was in a residential eating disorder hospital, so I was unable to do anything as he passed. Unable to console my dearest friend, business partner, and brother while he stopped breathing, and I do not know if I will find it possible to forgive myself. I only hope that heaven and God are truly real, as Andrew deserves to be among the fairest company in the most beautiful place for the rest of eternity. I am devastated that I will not be able to grow older with him at my side, going to college, getting married, having kids, watching the cycle repeat. My heart aches, it aches hard, and it feels emptier without Andrew welcoming me home from the residential facility I was at for three months. I found out at a similar time as my friends, Dakota and Arham, as we were his online friends we assumed he was just grounded or something, not dead. My twin sister, Sloane, completed suicide as well about a year and a half ago, so when I say I understand the pain you're feeling, I mean it. I know how it feels to watch a sibling, a loved one, someone you thought would be a constant in your life be buried after perishing far too soon. All we have is how we live, how we stand, and the words that're carried in the wind before we fall, and Andrew's words were humorous, loving, kind, loyal, and strong. He has left a lifelong impression on me, and I wish there was more I could do for him and his family than write this paragraph. You have all of my love, Swansons.

I have known Andrew for the better part of 5 years now. I used to develop Roblox games, and Andrew was one of the active players on the game and discord server that went along with it. I can remember vividly talking with him late at night and being in that tight-knit community with him. May God forever bless this beautiful young man, and may he find eternal peace up in heaven. Rest easy, Andrew.

I can't believe it took me this long to realize he was gone, but I've known Andrew for 6 years now. To me, I saw him like a little brother more than a friend and I can't believe this is how I find out he's gone. Like the others sending messages at this time, I have been with him online. We were planning to see each other in the near future and I really just can't believe I won't be able to talk to him again. He was a great man, seriously, and incredibly funny and fun to be around. We had so much in common and I wish the best for his parents and brother and any other part of the family. Love you man, rest peacefully.

I knew Andrew for about 5 years, since I was 11, and I too worked on several ROBLOX games with him. Past that, he was a great person, a great friend, and always cared for people no matter what. He'd bring positivity everywhere he'd go and could make anyone laugh. We shared a common interest in sports, specifically soccer and we'd often talk about our seasons during the year. I'll miss you forever Andrew, rest in paradise.

I didn't know Andrew for that long but whenever he joined a call he was always able to make me laugh, just seeing him join the call lit up my day he was a true friend and such a great person he always lit up the room with his presence, he is truly one of the kindest people I have ever met I'm gonna miss him dearly.

I've had the amazing opportunity to share a game project with Andrew as the second leading scripter/coder. While I had the short but enjoyable time with him I got to show him some games I had previously played and loved. Which he took a quick liking too and was ecstatic to try out some more. Following the time I had multiple great times with Andrew without many conflicts with him, which truly showed me how kind hearted he was, I have no idea how he passed away but my condolences to the Swanson family and those who cared deeply for him. May he rest in peace.

Andrew is one of my oldest friends that I met online, I've known him since I was 9 years old. I, too, was developing on a ROBLOX game with him. We've been through so much together, from 2019 to 2025. I love you man, rest in peace.

I hope that you may get through this first, terrible week of shock and grief as best you can. May Jesus hold you in his compassionate arms, and give you every measure of comfort possible, especially right now.

Chuck, Faith, & CJ... My heart breaks so deeply with yours. I have often thought of the handful of times Andrew sat in our small group at church and opened up on levels of deep curiosity and intellect. He truly was a special young man! Your family will be lifted in our prayers for months to come. With so much love... Elizabeth & Shelbii

Chuck, Faith and CJ, Words just can’t do justice to the sadness we feel for you in this difficult time. Along with AJ’s quick witted humor, it was obvious he loved the Lord. Hold on to that as you seek to meet again in God’s perfect timing. Chuck, the Hudsonville Christian School community leaned pretty hard on you in our recent past. I hope you and the family feel the love, prayers and arms wrapped around you in your time of mourning. With our love, Dean and Laura Ritsema, as well as, your HCS family.
