Andrew Swanson

May 16, 2009 ~
July 6, 2025

Andrew James Swanson, aged 16, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2025. He was born on May 16, 2009, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Andrew and his older brother, CJ, shared a passion for playing soccer from a very young age and continued it into their high school careers. Most recently, Andrew played for the South Christian Sailors, CJ for the Unity Christian Crusaders, and both for AYSO United. Their mutual love of the game translated into their close relationship off the field as well.

Andrew had a talent for developing video games for the computer with his on-line community, watching movies (especially the Harry Potter series with his dad), going on vacations with his family, and spending time with his friends. He enjoyed cooking, making and eating nachos, taking naps, riding roller coasters (the Kraken at Sea World topped the list), listening to music, and drinking Monster drinks.  He was reflective and thoughtful about many challenging issues. He cared for those who were on the outside, possessed a kind heart, and was deeply interested about his relationship with God. Andrew will be remembered for his quick sense of humor, his love of laughing, his loyalty to his friends, and being a fierce competitor.  He will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to know him.

Andrew will be forever remembered by his parents, Chuck and Faith (Osbeck) Swanson; his brother, CJ Swanson; and his grandmothers, Gloria Osbeck and Charlene Swanson. He will be greatly missed by his aunts and uncles, Mike and Theresa Osbeck, Tim and Jill Osbeck, Shannah (Swanson) Havens, and all his cousins and friends. Andrew was deeply loved by those who preceded him in death - his grandfathers, Russell Osbeck and Charles Swanson Sr, and uncle, Gene Havens.

Family and friends are invited to visit the family on Thursday, July 10 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr, Grandville, MI 49418.

Funeral services for Andrew will be held at Ada Bible Church (Kentwood Campus), 2045 68th Street SE, Caledonia, MI 49316 on Friday, July 11 at 11am, with an opportunity to greet the family an hour before.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests your remembrances of Andrew be made to South Christian High School’s Foundation Fund or AYSO United. Envelopes will be made available at MKD and Ada Bible Church.
