Adriana Passchier

Adriana Passchier, age 102, born during the Spanish flu pandemic, has now passed away in the Covid pandemic on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. She was born Adriana VanderSijde in Dordrecht, The Netherlands to Goris and Klazina VanderSijde who are now in Glory. She lived through the depression and the German occupation of The Netherlands. During the war she married Pieter Passchier, the love of her life. In 1958, Pieter, Adriana, and their six children immigrated to the US, settling in Grand Rapids. Adriana worked as an aide in numerous nursing homes, retiring from Brookcrest at the age of 72. Adriana was a consummate homemaker and mother and made the home a happy and progressive place. She was a member of several different CRC churches over the last 50 years, and most recently worshipped at Bethel United Reformed Church. Her first love was always the Lord Jesus Christ, and she showed that love by teaching her children about Him and always living daily to please Him. Adriana was preceded in death by her husband, Pieter; son, Pieter Herman Passchier, and grandson, Adam Waldo. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Wil Passchier, Irene and Michael Starsiak, Gerdy and Carl Waldo, Goris and Shirley Passchier, Bud and Jan Passchier, Adriana Passchier, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Jakoba (VanderSijde) Pluut (104 years old). A private family graveside will be held at Georgetown Township Cemetery with Rev. Jason Tuinstra officiating. A memorial service to celebrate Adriana’s life is pending.

Enkele dagen geleden ontvingen wij het bericht, dat onze tante Adri op 102-jarige leeftijd was overleden. Wij waren allemaal nog heel erg jong toen het hele gezin emigreerde naar Michigan. Dus wij moesten het hebben van de verhalen, want elkaar zien was dus niet aan de orde. Maar,mijn vader Bas heeft tante Adri nog wel gezien! In 2008 werd tante Adri 90 jaar en hij is daar geweest, met zijn twee zussen, Co en Ina. Daar hebben ze allemaal enorm van genoten!Wij wensen jullie allemaal heel veel sterkte met het verlies van jullie moeder, grootmoeder en overgrootmoeder.Lieve Groeten namens de kinderen van Bas&Jeanne; van der Sijde-van der Steenhoven.

Time flies. She was my aunt en often when they visited the Netherlands, always came en see our family. One of the highlights was that my mother Ina together with her sister our aunt Co, travelled to America to met their sister Adrie. This trip was unforgettable: three sisters together after such a long period. We will remember aunt Adri as the aunt with the same smile en joy as our mother Ina. Our prayers are for the family, who lost a special mother and grandmother. Goodness and mercy all my life, shall surely follow me: And in God's house for evermore, my dwelling-place shall be. This nice lady was my aunt. When they, tante Adri en oom Piet, visited the Netherlands they stayed often in our house. Always very “gezellig” when the were there. My mom visited her on her 90th birthday. She herself was 92 then. That was the last time they met. We have only good memories!! Rest In Peace dappere tante Adri!. ❤️

What a lovely lady, dear Adriana! I am so thankful that I had the privilege of knowing her for the last phase of her life. She was always so cheerful and so confident in her faith in God. And how she loved her family! She loved telling stories of the old days, and she even sang a birthday song to me in Dutch! What a treasure! So sweet and such an encouragement to all who had the pleasure of meeting her. I will dearly miss her.
