Adriana Passchier, age 102, born during the Spanish flu pandemic, has now passed away in the Covid pandemic on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. She was born Adriana VanderSijde in Dordrecht, The Netherlands to Goris and Klazina VanderSijde who are now in Glory. She lived through the depression and the German occupation of The Netherlands. During the war she married Pieter Passchier, the love of her life. In 1958, Pieter, Adriana, and their six children immigrated to the US, settling in Grand Rapids. Adriana worked as an aide in numerous nursing homes, retiring from Brookcrest at the age of 72. Adriana was a consummate homemaker and mother and made the home a happy and progressive place. She was a member of several different CRC churches over the last 50 years, and most recently worshipped at Bethel United Reformed Church. Her first love was always the Lord Jesus Christ, and she showed that love by teaching her children about Him and always living daily to please Him. Adriana was preceded in death by her husband, Pieter; son, Pieter Herman Passchier, and grandson, Adam Waldo. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Wil Passchier, Irene and Michael Starsiak, Gerdy and Carl Waldo, Goris and Shirley Passchier, Bud and Jan Passchier, Adriana Passchier, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Jakoba (VanderSijde) Pluut (104 years old). A private family graveside will be held at Georgetown Township Cemetery with Rev. Jason Tuinstra officiating. A memorial service to celebrate Adriana’s life is pending.
