Yvonne DeRuiter

DE RUITER - Yvonne Kay DeRuiter aged 74 went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 6, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis and Everett VanderLaan; brother, Richard VanderLaan. Surviving are her husband, Carl Roger DeRuiter; children, Terri (David) Bowers, Patrick (Mary) DeRuiter, David (Amy) DeRuiter, Michele (Tim) Beaver; 15 grandchildren, Sarah (Aaron) Wielenga, David (Lacy) Bowers, Daniel Bowers, Dustin (Erica) Bowers, Corey (Candice) DeRuiter, Lindsey (Chad) Reil, Ashley (Matt) Bierema, Brandi, April, Christie, Jessica, Cody and Cole DeRuiter, Levi and Paige Beaver; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Richard) Buckland, Joanne (Charles) Berens, Cindy (Patrick) Mulkerin; several nieces and nephews. On January 8, 1966 Vonnie married Carl DeRuiter. They lived in Wyoming, MI where they raised their four children and she taught ceramic classes in their home. She also taught Food Service at Kent Skills Center in Grand Rapids. In 1982 they moved to Merritt, MI where Vonnie was the Food Service Director for Houghton Lake Public Schools. Her family has many fond memories of them living on Green Lake in Caledonia, MI. In retirement they spent many wonderful years at Fisherman's Cove in Palmetto, FL. Vonnie loved camping in their 5th wheel, doing a large variety of crafts such as painting and making jewelry, shopping for gifts for others, and making meals for all the friends who frequented their home. She was the Queen of Hospitality. Vonnie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held 11:00AM Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Stegenga Funeral Chapel - Wyoming, 3131 S. Division Ave. Her family will greet relatives and friends Sunday from 5 to 7PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
