Winona M. VanderWest, age 84, of Grand Rapids was called home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 11, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger J. VanderWest; son, Jon VanderWest; parents, Ted and Winifred Karsten; two brothers, Henry and Evelyn Karsten, Harvey Karsten. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dean VanderWest; dear friend, Shirlene VanderWest; a daughter, Dawn (Tom) Mulder; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Scott) Hesselink, Kevin (Nikki) Mulder, Jason (Kenna) VanderWest, Chad (Molly) VanderWest; five great-grandchildren, Gavin, Brody, Mason Hesselink, Hudson and Simon Mulder. Winona worked as a Librarian Aide for many years at Millbrook Christian School. She was a member of Brookside CRC and along with her husband they were very active in the Mobile food pantry, helping in Story Hour and sang in the choir. Winona and Roger enjoyed traveling and enjoying meals at Culvers Restaurant. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 20 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, with Rev. Paul DeVries officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Brookside Mobile Food Pantry.
