Willis “Bill” Potgeter

Willis “Bill” J. Potgeter, age 85, of Allendale, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marie Potgeter; brothers, Morris and Eugene Potgeter; brothers-in-law, Don Rebentisch and Terry Hastings.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, JoAnn; children, Pamela (Linda Burton) Potgeter, Willis (Denise) Potgeter Jr.; precious granddaughter, Maria Jo Potgeter; brother, Ken (Shirley) Potgeter; sisters-in-law, Ellen (Greg) Denny, Ruth Hastings; nieces and nephews, Cindy (Tim) Baker, Stan (Kathy) Potgeter, Gary (Diane) Potgeter, Kurt (Sue) Shuck, Michael Potgeter, Joel (Laura) Potgeter, Kristy Goerney, Merle (Janet) Potgeter, Lynn (Joel) Harsevoort, Melvin Potgeter, Mitch (Becki) Potgeter, Terri (Dennis) Fritz, William (Mary) Espinoza, Vicki (Kraig) Fredricks, Bobi Jo (Dave) Foster, Carlene (Michael) Habian, Kurt (Karen) Hastings, Kent (Jeanne) Hastings, David (Lori) Hastings, Terry (Caitlin) Hastings. Bill and JoAnn met at the blueberry patch, where one ride on his motorcycle was all it took, and they were married one year later. Bill was a lifelong farmer and a welder at General Motors for 30 years.  He was a true farmer at heart and loved his farm and tractors. A private family service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf, 6651 Scott St., Allendale, with Pastor Ron Lugten officiating.  The burial will be held at Allendale Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from noon-1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Masks or face coverings are required for the visitation and service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
