Remembering William L. Van Tongeren
William L. Van Tongeren (91) passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior on December 8, 2018. He was proud to serve in the Navy in World War II, built and ran his own company, Mercury Caulking, that he operated until he was 70. Over Bill’s life, he impacted so many lives, not only his family but individuals and organizations in need, a man of great faith that showed with his actions and his generosity. He was blessed to have the love of two wonderful women—his first wife, Joy (35 years), and second wife, Louise (21 years), who together shared many adventures, sports and the retirement life at Nettle Island, Jensen Beach, Florida. He has many people that will greet him in heaven, his parents; wife, Joy; sons, Timothy and Richard; sister, Malois; brother, Phil; great granddaughter, Adriana Rose. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Louise; children, Nancy (John) Zondervan, Susie (Gerald) Hall, David Van Tongeren and Diane Helms; grandchildren, Deb, Jenny (Joe), Tom (Susan), John (Emily), Curt (LeAnn), Mark, Cammie, Margaret (TJ), Austin, and Rachel; great grandchildren, Lauren, Wesley, Hudson, Sidney, Trenten, Asher, Daron, Tommy and Ruby; Louise’s children, Scott (Lisa), David, and Chris; his brothers and sisters, Warren (Marion), Larry (Carla), Ken (Rhea), Zandee, Phil (Marilyn) Pikaart, Nancy; and his extended family. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Drive SW, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, December 19, from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment Rosedale Memorial Park.
