William Henry Groom, age 89, formerly of Norton Shores and Wyoming, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Waterford Place in Jenison, Michigan. Bill was born in Grand Rapids in 1933 to Layton and Minnie (Baldwin) Groom and graduated from Creston High School in 1951. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He married Nova Delores Hughey in 1953 in Grand Rapids and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2008. Bill began his civilian career as a plant manager for Link Tool & Die before founding his own tool and die company, Dimoco, Inc., in Grand Rapids, running the business with his son, Terry, until retirement. Bill possessed a unique talent for building his own inventions and bringing his designs to life. He will be remembered for his intellect and ability to create or fix anything and his genuine leadership in his business. He obtained his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his family to destinations, especially Mackinac Island. He was a long-time member of Muskegon Yacht Club, enjoying sailing, motor boating, collecting antique cars and motorcycling, riding his Harley Road King into his early 80’s. Bill was predeceased by his parents; wife, Nova; siblings, Robert and Raymond Groom; half-siblings, Mertie Groom House, and infant, Gerald Groom. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Brad (Laura) Groom, and Terry (Sue) Groom; daughter, Cindy Groom; grandchildren, Travis Groom, Amanda Emory, Morgan Groom, Parker Groom, and Josh Groom; and sister, Ruth Ann Bohn. There will be a private family memorial with interment at the Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona, Michigan at a later date. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Waterford for their care of Bill.
