William Franklin Qualls III, age 79, of Holland passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Kathryn Qualls; and sister, Margaret Starback Qualls. William will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Darlene; children, William (Stacy) Qualls, Michelle Qualls (Eddie Ruth), Kim (Mark) Hiller; and grandchildren, Calvin, Avery, Alyssa, Jack, Jacob, Andrew, and Nick. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday July 18, 2023 from 3-6 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

I just learned of Bill’s passing and want to send my condolences to all of his family and friends. I had the pleasure of golfing with Bill in Florida during the winter months. Bill was a very intelligent and interesting man. May his memory always be a blessing.

It was great to get to know Bill on past AWS committee work. He always had a kind word and he always had a lot of interest in making things better. Mr. Qualls has been volunteering in the American Welding Society technical committees for many years. As the chair of D8D subcommittee he has been leading us to develop new specifications to help the automotive and steel industries establish common standard. His knowledge and dedication will always be remembered.

Bill was the best summer neighbor ever. He was always there when I needed help, sometimes when I didn't even know I needed that help. He will be missed by many for years to come. Play golf to your hearts content my friend and rest.
