William Earl Setchfield

February 12, 1946 ~
May 20, 2026

William (Bill) Earl Setchfield, the son of Winston and Hazel; brother to Jim; and Dad to Todd, Cari (Roughley), and Kelli (Setchfield-Rhoads). He was Bumpa to Taylor, Dylan, Jakob, Jenifer, Lillian, and EJ; uncle to Stephen, Irene, and James. Bill extended his role of father to his beloved son-in-law Emory. He was a loving husband to Sandy until her passing from cancer in 2004, and later found love again with his wife, Beth, whose kindness, devotion, and steady companionship brought comfort and joy to his life.
Bill was a Vietnam Vet with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, an owner of multiple businesses, and the former Township Supervisor in Spencer Township. Bill had great friends, including his long time best friend Ben Weykamp. He loved his family and that love was shared with his many cousins.
Growing up in Belding, Michigan gave him his roots and a lot of memories on Howard Street. He had a way about him that just made you want to be around him. He was funny and playful and yet wise to so many things in life. He was loyal and if he loved you, you were in a special club. Bill will be stopping by the Rainbow Bridge to pick up Karli and Mia Ferne on his way to heaven and reconnect with those who passed before him.
Bill was a Cancer survivor and bravely dealt with PTSD and Dementia. Through it all he never forgot the love he had for his family. Bill was a man of faith. Though he faced struggles in life, he always met them with dignity, grace, and class. We are grateful to have had him in our lives and to have been loved by him.
A memorial service will be held 11am on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, with Chaplain Tammy Paluski officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family one hour prior to the start of the service from 10-11am at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont.
In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to Pound Buddies of Muskegon.

My deepest condolences to Beth, Cari, Kelli, Jim and Mary along with their families. Bill was more than just my brother-in-law, he was a big part of my family. I would stay with my sister and Bill many summers growing up. I have lots of memories of laughter around the family table. He had a big impact on my life during my 20s. I became addicted to drugs but he never judged me. Instead, he would encourage me to keep fighting the addiction. He was one of my biggest cheerleaders along with my sister. I remember when I was just past 90 days clean and sober, how proud Sandy and Bill were for me. But Bill was extremely proud of me because he knew how hard it was for me to get out of that lifestyle and start over. I don’t know if I could’ve did it without a lot of the wisdom he gave me and the countless prayers of my sister and her prayer group said on behalf of me! But I did, it thanks to Bill and Sandy (and her prayer group), who never gave up on me. They both loved me during the bad and the good. After my sister’s passing, Bill later married Beth and what a wonderful sweet person she is. Just like Bill, she is welcoming to everybody and full of warmth. I consider her a dear friend. I’m so sorry for your loss Beth. And to my nieces, Cari and Kelli, my heart goes out to you and your families. I know your father (and bumpa) will be greatly missed. Hang onto the good memories and his laughter. My thoughts and prayers are for you and all who knew him. For me, I will always be grateful to Bill for the many conversations and “wisdom” to help me get clean and sober since November 7, 1987. Until we meet again in heaven, thank you, Bill for believing in me “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
