William “Bill” Valkema

William G. Valkema, age 85, of Grand Rapids, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 1, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ada Valkema; siblings, Chuck, George, Til, Corky, and Betty. Bill was a kind and loving brother and uncle who found much enjoyment watching and listening to hockey and baseball. He was a lifetime member of Seventh Reformed Church in Grand Rapids where he served his Lord with his time and talents in various ways. He will be lovingly remembered by his niece and her husband, who was Bill’s special caregiver, Gayle and Doug VanderWilp; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff and caregivers of Faith Hospice for the love and compassionate care given to Bill.  A private family gathering will be held at Washington Park Memorial Gardens.   Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods.
