Remembering William “Bill” Baxter
William (Bill) R. Baxter, age 76, of Wyoming, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 27, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents, Rayfield and Margaret Baxter. Bill will be lovingly missed by his wife of 53 years, Margarethe; his children, Wayne (Mary) Baxter, Ray Baxter, and Evie (Mike) Vincent; grandchildren, Jacob, Rachel, Ashleigh, Evan, Sarah, Rebecca, Allison, Madelyn, David; sisters, Barbara (Dennis) Doyle, Margaret “Dee” (Joe) Lebednick; brother, Richard Baxter, sisters and brothers-in-law, Jose’ (Frans) Vogel, Evelyn Horstmanshof, Annelies (Richard) Deuel, Agnes (Tom) Kiry, Maarten (Bridget) Busser; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Bill will be remembered as a man who loved his family, friends, faith and country. He cared about everyone and anyone he met. He was a servant for many, volunteering with St. John Vianney Church and School, the St. Vincent dePaul Society, and Meals on Wheels. Bill died from leukemia, a disease attributed to his valiant service in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He loved participating in veteran parades with his son Ray. He was a life-long, faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and served as an usher with his father and brother. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan. The family would like to thank Spectrum Health and Lemmen Holton Cancer Center for the incredible care that Bill received and all the blood donors that gave of themselves. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 31 at 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4101 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming with Fr. John Vallier presiding. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday from 6-8 pm, with a Rosary Service at 8:00 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming, as well as on Friday for one hour prior to Mass at church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Leukemia Society.
