Wayne Horne

January 22, 1987 ~ September 2, 2016

HORNE - Wayne Z. "Wayno", Anishinaabe Spirit Name "Ekwabet", was born on Friday, January 23, 1987 to Tina Chisholm-Horne and Roy Horne. Wayno had a tough beginning of life - spending almost one month in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. His early years were riddled with multiple visits to MSU Endocrine Specialty Clinic. But to look at Wayno you wouldn't know that he had a chronic illness. Wayno was an active, loving and a lot of the time "mischievous" child. His grandparents, Eugene and Madonna Chisholm were active in his raising and as a family we spent almost every weekend together. Most of the summer weekends were spent in Newaygo at the family property camping. His paternal grandparents, Larry and Joyce Bennett also lived in Newaygo right down the road so Wayno was blessed to spend time with them as well. Wayno loved his sisters, Elizabeth "Maggie" and Jennifer Horne, as brothers often do, he teased them A LOT! But Wayno's love was unconditional for all his family. He would spend summers together with his cousin, Miles Chisholm, whom he loved like a brother and Miles' father, Stanley Chisholm. Wayno's Aunt Renee DeYoung loved to babysit often and making her time with the kids special - special birthday breakfasts, even green eggs and ham on St. Patrick's Day! Wayno attended and graduated from Godwin Heights High School. He was a talented artist who won an award for a self-portrait and was offered a scholarship to Kendall School of Art and Design. Wayno attended Grand Rapids Community College for a couple semesters but didn't know what career path would make him happy. He became a table games dealer working at Gun Lake Casino for a couple years, from there he worked for Turtle Creek Casino and finally working for Fire Keepers Casino. Wayno had planned to go back to College for business to advance in the gaming industry. Wayno loved and spoiled his two dogs, Axle and Athena. He was an avid video gamer, he enjoyed going to the movies, hunting, fishing and swimming - especially tube trips down the Muskegon River, telling "dramatic stories", playing jokes and teasing family and friends. He loved anything sweet to eat, and he had just begun getting into disc golfing. But most of all he loved spending time with family and friends. Wayno was a proud member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. He respected the traditional teachings and loved his sponsors that helped guide him: Wayne Graves, Ed Pigeon, Renee Daniels and Lin Bardwell. Wayno will be remembered most for his big infectious grin and goofy laugh, his joy of life, his generosity, big hugs and his baby face! Wayno will also be dearly missed by his aunt, Joy Horne; great aunts, great uncles, cousins, many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene and Madonna Chisholm, Joyce and Larry Bennett; and uncle, Stanley Eugene Chisholm. A celebration of Wayno's life will be held 2:00PM Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Luella Collins Community Center, 419 - 126th Ave., Shelbyville, MI 49344, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Bradley Indian Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane Society.
