Vivian May Ward (Salyer)

Vivian May Ward (Salyer) age 87 of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Ward.  Vivian retired from Grand Rapids Public School System working for various schools in the lunch program.  She earned her GED in 1977 at age 46, after raising 10 children.  She was an avid rose gardener.  In her retirement, she became an award winning ballroom dancer.  She is survived by her children, David and Elaine Ward, John and Sharon Ward, Ken and Virginia Ward, Bill Ward, Tom and Penni Ward, Roger and April Ward, Norman Ward, Jim and Ronda Ward, Joyce Ward, Charles Ward; daughter-in-law, Laura Gilbert; 20 grandkids; 17 great grandkids; 7 great great grandkids; sister, Alverta Beimers.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW with Dr. David Lee Smith officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home and on Friday from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
