Vivian Chambers passed away peacefully, just shy of her 95th birthday, on Thursday, May 21, 2015 and is now reunited with her beloved husband, Robert. Vivian was born in Douglas, Michigan on June 12, 1920 and went on to become Miss Saugatuck in 1939. Bob and Viv enjoyed many years of golf at Broadmoor Golf Course and lots of fun with their Gourmet Club and the Couples Club at their church (Burlingame United Church of Christ). Vivian is survived by her children, Jim and Sue Chambers, Chuck and Anne Chambers, Greg and Rosemary Gavrilides, Dick and Marji Chambers; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family has fond memories of Grandma’s chocolate Easter eggs, Grandpa’s green and red socks and the best Christmas: when they forgot the Christmas gift list and everyone opened the wrong present! Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Melbourne and Mary Powers; and sister, Betty Dorr. The family would like to thank the staff at Clark on Keller Lake for the compassionate care their mother received these last few years. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday 11 AM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW with Pastor Lonnie Shields officiating. Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. In Viv’s memory, donations may be made to Paws With A Cause or Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary.

Vivian and her sister Betty were childhood friends of my late aunt Elizabeth Pamperien Schultz. On her behalf, best wishes to her family, in celebration of may girlhood memories from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s and telephone contacts until her death in 2010. Rosemary, my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. She was a fun-loving, caring woman and it was an honor and pleasure to be able to know her and spend some time with her. I remember our time golfing with your mom and on the first tee she said I hope I don't fall over, I am not as steady as a I used to be. We all laughed, but sure enough she swung all the way around and fell right over - but she was laughing about and so did we and when asked if she wanted to quit - she was quite adamant - no she wanted to golf the full round and we had fun and laughed a lot that day. She will be missed. May her memory be eternal! - Ellen
