Ruth Elzinga

Ruth Elzinga departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 24, 2021 to go to her heavenly home. She married the love of her life, Ronald Gene Elzinga on Sept. 3, 1970 and shared his love of restoring old cars and being in car clubs. They made many friends and good memories with the car clubs. Their beloved son, Christopher, was born in 1973 and gave them two wonderful grandsons. Ruth was a life-long resident of Allendale, and a preschool teacher at Allendale Public Schools for 20 years, and also worked at her Dad’s greenhouses for many years. She loved to do crafts and plan get-togethers with family and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Elzinga; parents, George and Marie Zylstra; and in-laws, Ed and Lois Elzinga. Ruth is survived by her son, Christopher and Tamara Elzinga who were united in marriage on Ron and Ruth’s 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 3, 2020; grandsons, Cameron and Keegan Elzinga; sister, Shirley Block; brother, Steve Zylstra; nieces and nephews, Jodi, Bryan and Rocky Block, Nicole, Tyler and Alexa Zylstra, Elizabeth (Zylstra) and Zach Jabour; sister-in-law, Edna and Roger Stoel; many cousins and dear friends. Family and friends had a wonderful celebration of Ruth’s 69th birthday in November 2019. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, January 27, from 11 am -1 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Allendale) 6651 Scott St., Allendale. A private family service will follow. Burial will take place at Allendale Township Cemetery. The service will be recorded and available to watch shortly after on our website.
