Virginia Ann Hoogterp, age 93, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Joseph and her son, Stephen Hoogterp. Virginia was devoted to her family, her Catholic faith, and her Lord. Blessed with a servant’s heart, she gave of her time and talents in many ways, always about serving others. She endured life’s challenges with dignity and grace. She had a smile and positive spirit that was radiant to those around her. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Richard and Eileen Hoogterp, Gerald and Linda Hoogterp, Joel and Sandy Hoogterp, Mary Jane and Galen Simerson, Margaret and Randy Wilcox, Mark and Laurie Hoogterp, David Hoogterp; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 11 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday 5-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Drive SW with a Vigil Service held at 7:30 pm. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Ann’s Home or Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. A special thanks to the staff and caregivers, especially Sister Gabriella, for their love and compassionate care given to Virginia during her stay at St. Ann’s Home.

I was so sorry to learn of Ginny's passing. She was a woman of deep faith through all her trials in life. I do still remember her radiant smile and positive spirit. She called me several years ago to express her sympathy upon my dad's passing (Ed McPharlin)...such a kindness it was to me. May your spirits be consoled in knowing she loves you still and is at rest with God.
