Violet Mae Start

Violet Mae Start, age 91, of Grandville, met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 14, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Start; infant granddaughter, Amber Joy VerHage; parents, Marinus and Jennie Goudzwaard; and sister, Virginia. She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Jean and Bob Schneider, Ellen and Jim Batsakis, Laura VerHage; six grandchildren, Ben and Lacey VerHage, Holly VerHage, Aaron Batsakis, Adam Batsakis, Jason and Betsy Smith, Renae and Jon Stedman; five great grandchildren; several cousins, including Mel and Joanne Gezon; brother-in-law, Ed and Sharon Start; sister-in-law, Joan and Bill Pettinga; many nieces and nephews. Violet was a wonderful cook, hostess, and seamstress. Being a stay-at-home Mom and raising her children with Hank in a Christian home was very important to her. Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home and Thursday from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Georgetown Manor; the family is thankful for the tender loving care shown by the staff to Violet.
