Victor's mother, Martha Van Den Hoek Lefers Smits, and my mother, Elizabeth Nieuwenhuis Ooms, were first cousins. Victor and I attended American Christian School and Corsica High School in South Dakota together from first grade grade until sophomore year when he moved to Michigan. He and I were friends as well as relatives, and I remember nothing but good about him. Unfortunately, our paths ceased to coincide or cross in during our adult lives, but I am happy to remember him and to have known him.

Vic, You left us with some blessed memories. I will treasure them. I will tuck them safely in my heart. You wore so many hats Father. Stepfather, Grandpa, and Grandpa Great. I will cherish all you were. Thank you and love you more. Deborah Sonke

Our Condolences to the Lefers & Bentz families. Victor was a much loved man. Although we didn’t know him well when we were together we enjoyed conversing with him. His love for his family was always clearly evident.

Grandpa, I'm so excited to share stories about all the amazing memories I have with you. I get to tell my children about your love for Jesus and reassure them (and myself) that you are in that "forevermore" part of your journey and that brings me such relief. Know that my tears are a tribute to you but my smiles for the good times mean even more because I treasure every golf cart ride, every Saturday morning grapefruit I shared with you, every tractor ride, every conversation and life lesson and every quiet cup of coffee. I love you so much, Grandpa, you are truly missed. I will see you again.
