Vera Swadner

Vera (Shutko) Swadner, aged 98 of Grand Rapids, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Emerson; three brothers and three sisters; son-in-law, Dennis Miller; and great-granddaughter, Stephanie Swadner. She is survived by her children, Sharron (Swadner) Miller, Roger and Sharon (Goerke) Swadner; her grandchildren, Dawn and Neal Eickholtz, Todd Swadner, Sheri Martino and fiancé, Kelly Corcoran, Roddney Swadner, Holli and Tom Hallick; six great-grandchildren; sister, Nell Churches; sister-in-law, Clair Shutko; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Vera’s life will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11 am at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo SE with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. The family will receive relative and friends one hour prior to the memorial service. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Gentiva Hospice. The family wishes to express their thanks to Sunrise, Maple Creek, Porter Hills, Gentiva Hospice, Hospice of Michigan, and the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids Pastoral Team for their loving care of Vera.

So sorry to Vera's family for your loss. Vera was such a huge part of my life for many years babysitting me every weeknight. She used to let me get up late at night and we'd play cards or games. I have to admit that we knocked on her door many times with the hope of her giving us a piece of candy or gum and she never disappointed us. Loved her dearly. Thoughts and prayers to you all. Sharron and Roger. I'm so sorry to hear of your moms passing. She was a great lady, always full of energy and laughter and fun. It's so wonderful that she was in your lives for so many years.......I have many happy memories of your family when we were neighbors. Hugs to you both.
