Timothy Gene Bouwens, aged 67 of Wyoming, was promoted to heaven after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, April 22, 2018. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jillian Bouwens; parents, Robert Bouwens, Margaret Bouwens; brother, Bobby Bouwens. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Shannon; children, Christina (Scott) Lasher, Chad (Alesha Weigel) Bouwens, Justin (Christie Berry) Sims, Sarena Bouwens, Daniel Bouwens; grandchildren, Briana Zwiers, Jacob Zwiers, Jocelyn Bouwens, Carter Sims, Lincoln Sims; parents-in-law, H. Leo and Patricia Ryan; brothers and sisters, Valerie (Ron) Potter, Cindy (Doug) Gillette, Norma (Randy) Tanis, Beverly (Mark) Brame, Terry (Nancy) Bouwens, Brian (Jules) Bouwens; many nieces, nephews and cousins; close friends, Gus Corona, Mike and Sherrie Gegoski; and 2 German shepherds, Sasha and Sebastian. Tim proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and also served as border patrol at the Berlin Wall. He loved being outdoors all day, including fishing and sunbathing. He also greatly enjoyed sports, particularly the Detroit Lions and U of M football. Most of all, he loved being with his family. He enjoyed road trips, traveling and cruises, and even coffee at McDonald’s. He worked 18 years at Alofs Manufacturing and retired from H. T. Hackney after 17 years. In honor of Tim’s love of the NFL, the family encourages all to wear their favorite sports paraphernalia. Funeral services for Tim will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Woodward Baptist Church, 2160 - 76th Street SW, Byron Center with Pastor Lance Laker officiating. Interment Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

Tim was a wonderful man and so very loved. So many great memories from our childhoods ------ family reunions and other family gatherings. Miss the great times at the Legion with family and friends. Will miss Tim forever.
