Thomas Joseph Sawicki

Thomas Joseph Sawicki, age 88, of Wyoming, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025. He will be lovingly remembered by his high school sweetheart and wife of 68 years, Grace; children, Timothy (Terrie) Sawicki, Julie Duff, Steven (Kelly) Sawicki; grandchildren, Jason (Stacie) Sawicki, Brandon (Melissa) Duff, Thomas Sawicki, Katherine Sawicki, Camille (Fiancé, Nick Mercado) Sawicki; 3 step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Judy (Ken) Walker; nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Sawicki and Dan Sawicki. Tom was quick witted with a great sense of humor. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp, right out of high school. He enjoyed driving throughout the U.S., especially to Branson, MS, with Grace; to be entertained by all they have to offer there. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends from work. He loved the outdoors; hiking, taking walks, and ice fishing on Reeds Lake.  He was passionate about drag racing and Nascar. He was part of his son’s pit crew at I-96 Speedway, helping out with mechanical issues. He was quite the handyman at home, anything that needed building, fixing and maintaining, he did himself.  He worked long, hard hours for over 40 years, at Michigan Colprovia, where he was a heavy equipment mechanic and operator. He taught his children the value of hard work, integrity and loyalty. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am, Friday, February 21, 2025, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with Rev. John Vallier officiating.  Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday, February 20, from 4-7pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, as well as one hour prior to mass from 10-11am. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity of one's choosing.
