Thomas John Vanderwell

Thomas John Vanderwell, age 57, of Grandville, MI passed from his earthly life to his heavenly home, and was reunited with his father, Howard; infant sister, Barbara; and grandparents, on August 12, 2022.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cheryl Vanderwell; his children, Kelly, Kristin, Emily, Isaac and Abby Vanderwell, and his grandson, Abraham Vanderwell. He is also survived by his mother, Eleanor Vanderwell; brothers, Ron (Deb) Vanderwell, and Doug (Bev) Vanderwell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Elizabeth Bruxvoort; sister-in-law, Lisa (Ben) Blanzy; six nephews and one niece.

Tom was happiest when he was with his family. He loved helping others whether in banking or non-profit work. He loved to write. He loved learning and trying to make a difference in the worlds of injustice and racism.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18 from 6-8 p.m. at MKD Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 7 p.m. at Madison Church Square Campus, 1441 Madison Ave SE, Grand Rapids.
