Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
Thomas James Thompson, age 87, of Wyoming, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 21, 2026. He was born and raised in Grand Rapids to the late Frank and Josephine Thompson, graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1957. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected his strong sense of duty and patriotism. Tom lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a joyful spirit. He was a faithful employee of PCA in Wyoming, retiring after 41 years. Following retirement, he and Jan enjoyed going on 11 cruises, an activity they always looked forward to! A true jack of all trades, he could fix just about anything and took pride in using his skills to help others. Tom was a longtime and faithful member of St. John Vianney Church, where he served as an usher. Deeply devoted to his family, he was known for organizing family reunions for 50 years, ensuring everyone stayed connected and felt welcome. Tom greatly enjoyed bowling, golf, football, chess, board games, cards, horseshoes, hunting, biking, fishing, telling stories/jokes and trips to the casino, always appreciating friendly competition and time spent together. Many fun memories were made with his kids over the years on camping trips. He had a great sense of humor, loved a good bargain, and was well known for his frugality, hosting garage sales and enjoying shopping at Menards. His practical nature, warm laughter, and love for family will be remembered by all who knew him. In the words of Tom, “I’m resting my eyes, take er’ easy”. We now take comfort in knowing that he is resting in the loving arms of Jesus. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Janet “Jan” (Bowhuis) Thompson; his children, Marc and Rebecca Thompson, Maribeth and Mike Vlasman; his grandchildren, Paiton Thompson, Blake Thompson, Madeline Vlasman, Mitchell Vlasman; sister, Gladys Baker of Oregon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Maryellen Thompson, Bonnie (Denny) Banghart of Kalamazoo, Cindy (Jim) Burri; many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park Avenue SW, Wyoming with Fr. John Vallier officiating. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 4:30-6:30 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, and also from 10-11 am prior to the mass at the church.
