Obituary
Remembering Thomas Apsey
Thomas Willard Apsey, age 87, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 13, 2026. He now joins his wife of 64 years, Frances, his son, Thomas M. Apsey; sisters, Jackie Robertson, Sandra and Roland “Spike” Gallop; brothers-in-law, Dick, Tom, and Marc Kornoelje, and Louis Bellgraph, all of whom preceded him in death.
He was the beloved patriarch of his family, a man whose strong faith was evident not only in his words, but in the way he lived his life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was known for his quick wit, strong work ethic, and commitment to staying active. He worked faithfully as a tinsmith at the General Motors Delphi Plant until his retirement, and in the years that followed, he enjoyed helping his sons with their work. He found joy in the outdoors, especially through hunting, fishing, and golfing. He and his wife, Frances, also treasured the opportunity to travel together and create lasting memories. Above all, his greatest pride was his family, and the example of faith, hard work, and devotion he leaves behind will continue to be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Daniel and Beth Apsey, John and Jackie Apsey, Sheri Lehmann; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Bellgraph, Donald and Donna Apsey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joanne and Dale Larabel, Bob and Sharon Kornoelje, Florence Kornoelje, Juliette Kornoelje; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. The burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, September 20, from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.
