I worked with Terry for several years at Blackmer Pump. We shared the enjoyment of creating and shooting firearms. He often asked me to shoot some of his creations. His custom 25-06 was a pleasure to shoot and was a real tack-driver. We both shot some small groups at 100 yards: 1/2" to 5/8" were regular because Terry was a skilled gunsmith. When he put together a rifle for Elk hunting, his idea was a 375 improved cartridge! We set out for the range with anticipation. The results were not unexpected. However, the cartridge generated huge amounts of kick. I managed to fire a 3-shot group under 2' at 100 years. However, each shot knocked me off the range bench. I had anticipated a kick but never have I experienced such force. All the time, Terry was watching and smiling. His rifles would really shoot but kick was punishing. These memories are from 1971-1975. I lost track of Terry when I moved out of state. However, in 2014, I found his address and sent a letter with a few photos of an Elk I shot in Wyoming and my favorite rifle. He returned with a letter from later in 2014 with a few photos of his deer and fish. I just found his letter this morning. I thought I would reconnect with him but then found his obituary and his wife also. I'm thankful for our times together and our last communication. I am also encouraged that Terry and I share the same faith. His journey is now complete. We will meet again.
