Sylvia Jean Bordewyk

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, Sylvia Bordewyk, age 94, passed away peacefully. Born and raised in Chicago, Sylvia moved to Grand Rapids before her senior year at Grand Rapids Christian High School. She was married to Gordon from 1950 until his death in 2017. She loved God, her family, travel, nature, and books. She was known and appreciated by the many people who received handwritten cards or notes in which she thoughtfully expressed care, concern or sympathy. She is survived by her children: Gordon Jr. (Karen), Laura Wiersma (Thomas), Jesslyn DeBoer (Walter); grandchildren: Rachel Bordewyk, Katie Tompkins, David Bordewyk, William Wiersma (deceased 2006), Natalie Wiersma, Dennis DeBoer, Philip DeBoer, Marissa Dierlam; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Kelly Buist officiating.
