Susanne York

Susanne J. York, age 68, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on May 22, 2015. She died from complications of Crohn's disease.  Her sister, Kaylyn and special friend Phil were by her side.  She was born April 9, 1947 in Grand Rapids, MI.  Susanne was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Gwen York and nephew Scott Hamlin.  She is survived by her beloved son Brett Slebodnik (wife Jennifer Joy, their infant son Arlo Ryder born 4/18/15) of Durango, CO, devoted sister Kaylyn (Bob) Hamlin of Ada, nieces Robyn (John) Churchhill of Grand Rapids and Kelli (Jeff) Casamento of Ada, MI, great-niece Brittany Churchhill, great-nephews Brandon and Austin Churchhill, Dallas Hansen and Jasper Casamento.  Also, cherishing her memory are Phil Hughes, her life partner and loving caregiver of Castle Pines, CO and his daughter Aubrey along with numerous extended family and friends.  In spite of her chronic illness, Susanne lived a full, rich life. She loved traveling, shopping, gardening, dancing and tennis and she especially enjoyed her two cats.  She was a 1965 graduate of Rockford High School and had been looking forward to her 50th class reunion on June 27th. She graduated from Bronson School of Nursing in Kalamazoo and had a fulfilling 34-year career as a registered nurse. Susie treasured the time spent with her family, during her final eight days at home. She appreciated the many prayers, phone calls and visits from friends, neighbors and family. Special thanks to cousin, Karren Thayer, for being there with us in Colorado. The five-day visit with Brett, J.J. and Arlo was priceless. Holding her precious grandson brought Susie so much joy. We will miss her strong spirit and zest for life.
