Sue A. VanSlooten

Sue Ann VanSlooten, age 87, born December 12, 1937, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on November 12, 2025. Sue was a steadfast servant of Jesus Christ. Throughout her day, she would stop people with a warm smile and say, “Hello, my name is Nana Sue—do you know Jesus?” And as she walked away, she would always leave them with a heartfelt, “God bless.” She trusted the Lord to nurture and grow the seeds of faith she planted in others. Sue also had a tremendous heart for guiding children to Christ and served faithfully as a volunteer with the Kids Life Bible Club for 30 years.

Born to Harvey and Ella DeGood (Butcher), she had four siblings, Yvonne Staudacher (Jim), Pat Dickinson (Bill), Harvey DeGood (Deanna), Faye Myers (Gary).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dale VanSlooten; sister, Pat Dickinson; brother, Harvey DeGood; brothers-in-law, Jim Staudacher, Larry Johnson.  

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Alison (Keith) VanderHeide of Middleville and Charise (Jim) Bos of Byron Center; grandchildren, Tyler VanderHeide (28), Levi VanderHeide (22), Hope VanderHeide (21), Jerad Bos (25) (Mahri), Reese Bos (23), Sam Bos (21); sister-in-law, Patricia (Larry) Johnson; brother-in-law, Philip (Trudy) VanSlooten.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Ideal Park Christian Reformed Church, 320 56th Street SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Jake Jeong officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, November 20, from 5 to 7:30 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood and on Friday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm prior to the service at church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Ideal Park CRC.
