Sr. Kusba

Kusba, OP, John Therese of Grand Rapids (born Dolores Theresa Mary Kusba in Saginaw, MI) died on February 26, 2020. She was 91 years old and a Dominican Sister for 72 years. She earned a BS in Education from Aquinas College and an MA in Religious Education from the Aquinas Institute of Religious Studies. Sister John Therese taught in schools throughout the Michigan in the cities of Gaylord; Saginaw; Muskegon Heights; Muskegon; Alpine; Grand Rapids; Traverse City; Dearborn; Hart; Maple Grove; Saginaw; Taylor; and Beal City. She also taught for twenty-six years in New Mexico in Ranchos de Taos; Alameda; Santa Cruz; and Albuquerque. Sister John Therese loved the mountains and life in New Mexico and treasured the opportunity to work with children from languages and cultures other than her own. She also enjoyed seeing the country between New Mexico and Michigan and often chose to drive rather than fly when returning to Michigan for summer programs. Sister John Therese took comfort in the passage from Ecclesiastes 3:1, "There is a time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens." As long as she was able to do so, Sister John Therese helped out where and when she could, for in her estimation, it was always time to be of service and she was always ready to lend a helping hand. Sister John Therese is survived by nieces, nephews, many friends and a loving community. Sister John Therese will repose at Dominican Chapel/Marywood, 2025 Fulton Street East, with visitation on Thursday, February 27 from 6:00-7:00 pm followed by a Remembering Service at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 28 at 4:00 pm at Dominican Chapel /Marywood. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
