Shirley was one of the best nurses I ever had the pleasure of working with. She was also the best manager I have ever had. I worked in SICU at Blodgett where she taught me the ins and outs of caring for open heart patients right after surgery. She then became manager of 4E Cardiovascular unit at Blodgett and hired me on the spot for a day shift position. She brought half of 4E to the Meijer Heart center and settled the floor in before retiring. I will never forget how she supported her staff nurses. I can remember her pulling a surgeon into the staff lounge, getting right in his face and told him never to yell at her nurses again, especially in front of patients. She told him to speak with and respect her first class nursing staff and if he had a problem, to speak with her. She is a person I will always love, respect and never forget. I developed into a great nurse from being a good nurse under her friendship and management. I pray for peace for all her family and remind them that Shirley will always be with them. I will miss Shirley greatly.
