Shirley Potgeter, age 85, of Allendale, went to her heavenly home with Jesus on Saturday, August 20, 2022, surrounded by her family. Shirley will be remembered by her loving husband of 66 years, Ken; children, Michael Potgeter, Joel and Laura Potgeter, Kristine (Potgeter) Gorney; grandchildren, Greg and Rebekah Potgeter, Kurt Potgeter and fiancee Andrea Stephens, Steven and Jodi Potgeter, Jared and Heather Potgeter, Heather and Ryan Balcom, Anna and Daniel Hendricks, Haylea Gorney, Kendra Gorney; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joe and Alice Carrell, Al and Joanie Carrell, and sister-in-law, JoAnn Potgeter. Shirley had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior, and she loved living for her family and their strong family connections. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, 11 am at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Allendale) 6651 Scott St. with Chaplains Bruce and Gin Greenlee officiating. Interment will take place at Allendale Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home.

Shirley and I were friends and sister-in-laws for 65 years. We had so much fun going on motorcycle trips with the gang. We did a lot of shopping and lunches with our high school buddies. We were classmates at Coopersville High School. She was a beautiful lady and I will miss her very much.

Very fond memories of Shirley throughout the years we were at Robinson Baptist Church. Because of medical appointment on Fri morning we are unable to attend the memorial service but we certainly remember you in our prayers.

Our condolences and sympathy to the family in the loss of this beautiful woman of God. May you find comfort and peace in the knowlege that she is now with our Heavenly Father and you will see her agian someday. We remember Shirley as a sincere, kind, and beautiful woman. Surely she will be missed in your family here on earth and for that we are praying for and thinking about you all.
