Shirley Mae Van Bendegom

January 10, 2021

Shirley Mae Van Bendegom, age 93, of Sun City, AZ, formerly of Wyoming, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 10, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M., of 61 years, her parents (Ray and Verma), many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her two favorite dogs (Angel and Reba). Shirley will be dearly missed by her two sons, James R. (Pam) Van Bendegom, Jack Van Bendegom; grandchildren, Jonathan (Lisa) Van Bendegom, Scott Van Bendegom, Katie Buchholz; two great granddaughters, Skylar Buchholz and Peyton Buchholz; Uncle Buck and many cousins from the “Anderson Clan”. Shirley was an avid reader, wonderful baker, caring friend to many, a woman of strong faith, and one of the founding members of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Shirley, like many others from the greatest generation, dropped out of school to work to support the War Effort. In 1974, she completed her high school education by graduating from Godwin Heights Adult Education Program. We would like to thank the staff of Family Comfort Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and assistance during her final days, and her son Jack for being her primary caregiver for the past 8 years. Funeral services will be private because of the Covid 19 Pandemic. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Family Comfort Hospice and Palliative Care, 7975 North Hayden Road Suite A-203, Scottsdale, AZ 85250.

so saddened by her passing . Knowing that she was a strong family oriented woman and that she was cared for by family until the home coming , shows that tradition continued . Our prayers go out to the entire family God Bless

Words just can't describe the incredible loss all of you must be feeling. Cherishing the decades of good times are so much more important than this moment that just reminds us all to enjoy life to it's fullest. To Jim, Pam, Scott, and Katie, along with the rest of your family - thinking of you in this difficult time.
