Remembering Shirley J. DeBruin

Shirley J. DeBruin, age 91, of Wyoming, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 26, 2018, after a courageous, two year, battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius “Neal” DeBruin; and her brothers, Gordon VerMerris, Norman (Dorthella) VerMerris. She is survived by her children, Douglas (Nancy J.) DeBruin, Dale DeBruin, Darlene S. (James) Rittersdorf, Daniel (Nancy A.) DeBruin, Diane DeBruin; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Clarence) Hemmes; brother, Russell (Doris) VerMerris; sisters-in-law, Ruth VerMerris, Anna Verburg; and many nieces and nephews.  Shirley was the church secretary for Grace Reformed Church for 45 years. She took great joy in arranging the flowers for the church sanctuary and poured her generous heart into loving and serving people. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Grace Reformed Church, 3330 Burlingame Ave. SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Dr. Jack Doorlag officiating. Interment will be held at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW.
