Sheryle Matteson

Sheryle A. Matteson, age 84, of Jenison, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 2, 2025. She was a kind and loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and sister who was always positive and would greet you with a friendly smile. She was blessed with the gift of singing and used this gift to glorify Jesus. Sheryle was a founding member of Hark Up where she was a tenor, participating in countless performances over the years. She was a longtime member of Fair Haven Church, using her gifts to serve in many ways. Sheryle had a career in office management, working at R.E. Barber Ford, Elhart Pontiac, and retired from Landscape Design Services. One of her greatest joys was playing with her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. Many games, especially SORRY! were enjoyed together. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially snowmobiling. Many miles were enjoyed on the trails at the cabin Up North. Above all, her dedication to her family and her service to others will be remembered by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Benson; parents, Egbert and Gertrude Baumann; and parents-in-law, Robert and Norma Matteson. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, Garry Matteson; her children, Joseph Michael Benston (Gwen Tyler), Daniel Lee Matteson; granddaughter, Whitney Jo Oliver (Daniel Perez); great-grandchildren, Alayna Nichole Oliver, Sierra Alyse Oliver, Isaiah Anthony Oliver; siblings, Arvella and Rev. Warren Bovenkerk, John and Rosemary Baumann, Ted and Barbara Baumann; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lynda Schank, Greg and Sue Matteson, David Matteson; many loving nieces, nephews, and several dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Open Barn, 6421 56th Ave., Hudsonville, with Pastor Greg VanderMeer and Pastor Rick Kiekintveld officiating. The burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 8, from 4-7 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
