Shawn Patrick Carroll

Shawn Patrick Carroll, age 48 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018 after a heroic 5 year battle with Multiple Myeloma. He will be forever missed by his beloved wife of 25 years, Christina (Christy) Carroll; his beloved daughters, Jessica (Josh) Irish, Marissa (Kwamara) Spiering, Tara (Joe) Perez, Nikki (Gabe) Padilla, Kendra Wert; and his pride and joy grandchildren, Noah, Brayden and Aribella, Jaida, Joseph and Giovanni, Ezekial and Hazelei. He was the best grandpa (papa) ever and fought with all of his might to stay here for them. He is also survived by his mother, Cheryl (Andy) Boone; brother, Bryan (Emeshig) Dykstra; nephew, Christopher Dykstra; aunt, Bonnie “Toot” (Clint) Komar; mother in law, Nancy Spiering; all of Christy’s siblings, Pete (Dawn) Spiering, Corrie Beatty, Carol Spiering, Nancy Monterusso, JoAnne (Leonard) Sanchez, Gerrie Tebo, Case (Laura) Spiering, Judy Mitchell; and nephew Ryan Beatty. We will never forget him and all the fun things he has done over the years. His proudest accomplishment’s were his daughters and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Dawn Bosworth; sister, Dawn Marie Carroll; uncle, Butch Bosworth; and father in law, Pieter Spiering. As he wished, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood with Rev. Paul DeVries officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 10-11 am prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
