Remembering Sharon Lee Walker

Sharon Lee Walker, age 79, of Byron Center, passed away peacefully Friday, January 16, 2026, after a seventeen-year battle with lymphoma and leukemia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Madelyn Morgan. Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Donald Walker; her son, Matthew Walker; her daughter, Sara Walker; grandchildren: Abigail, Celia, Margaret, Grant, Beatrice, and Jack; great-grandchildren: Luke and Haven; her brother, Michael (Bernadette) Morgan; sister-in-law, Suzanne Blank; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon was a graduate of Rogers High School and Grand Valley State University. She loved to read and spent most of her career as a librarian, retiring from the Grand Rapids Public Library in 2009 after surviving her first cancer diagnosis.

She was happiest on road trips through northern Michigan and had many fond memories going to the family cabin in Frederic while growing up. Sharon treasured being ‘up north’, looking for Petoskey stones, and family time near Lake Michigan. She loved music and going to concerts with Don; she was also an avid fan of Michigan State University and the Detroit Tigers.

Above all, Sharon cherished her family. Known affectionately as “Ba” to her grandchildren, she found her greatest joy in being a mom and grandma.

According to Sharon’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes you to consider becoming a regular blood donor, supporting your local library, or donating to Blood Cancer United, fka The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Our prayers and thoughts for Don, Matthew, Sarah and the rest of your family. Hoping you can take comfort in the memories, your love and family you shared together. I haven't seen Sharon in a long time but her kindness lingers.

We are so saddened to hear about Sharon’s passing. Thinking of you and the family during this difficult time.

— Joel and Emily Morgan

Don! My heart filled condolences to you and your family! The way you talked about her totally showed how LOVED she was by you! HUGS my dear friend!

— Malik Baker

Sharon was always my “cool” cousin growing up. I thought her and Mike were the best. I grew up to be a big reader just like her and at one point thought I should have the same job as her! I know after such a long battle she’s finally resting which she deserves but we’re going to miss her.
