Shannon Michele Rast

Shannon Michele Rast, age 48, of Zeeland, passed on into the loving arms of her Lord on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Shannon was a school bus driver for Zeeland Public Schools. From an early age, she loved animals and being in nature, whether hiking, exploring, camping or sledding. Her artistic talents could be seen in her paintings, drawings and baking. Shannon had a love for life, a joy for appreciating the world around her and was an avid reader with a fearless curiosity. Her faith was important to her. She was a member of St. Willibrord Antiochian Orthodox Church. Above all, she cherished her family. With her kids she was supportive, involved, and loved making memories together while going on nature walks, baking and sharing interests in art, games and anime. Shannon didn’t hesitate to go the extra-mile to make her family feel special and loved. She will be greatly missed for her smile, compassion, kindness and joy she would bring into any room. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Charlotte, and sister-in-law, Jessica Berens. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Pamela (Robert) Berens; father, Pete (Pat) DeJong; children, Andrew Rast, Jeffrey Rast, Colleen Rast and their father, Gregory Rast; brothers, Jeremy (Janna) Berens, Nate Berens; nieces and nephews: Elijah, Isaac, Max, and Mia; grandma, Karen Rast, and many extended family members. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Fr. Seraphim Schlueter officiating. Burial will take place at Felch St. Cemetery in Zeeland. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 10-11:30 am at the funeral home prior to the service. The service will be available via livestream at www.mkdfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct donations to the family for final costs.
