Remembering Scott Allan Lubbers

Scott Allan Lubbers, 61, of Kentwood MI passed away surrounded by family and friends on August 14th. Scott was born on January 6th of 1965 to Gordon Lubbers Jr and Carol Lubbers (Cartwright).

Scott and Brenda met while he was bowling in his traveling league. During the 41 years together, 38 of them married, they had 2 boys Nicholas and Jason. Built a home and made many memories together that they will cherish forever. Scott was an avid bowler growing up and he ran a golf league in his later years. He also enjoyed baseball, golf, and football and loved his tv room watching sports. Favorite teams were Lions, Tigers and Michigan Wolverines. He enjoyed swimming in the pool at their family home where many memories were made. Scott worked at many furniture companies, but the last 15 years was spent as a zone leader at Steelcase Wood in the Finish Department. Scott loved his grandchildren and he enjoyed cooking and gardening with them. Scott was the King of his backyard. He loved firing up his grill, smoke rolling, music playing, while family and friends splashed and laughed in the pool. He enjoyed teaching Oliver how to use his tools; they even built a swing set for the backyard. He loved showing Oliver how things worked and passed down his skills. Emma and Oliver were his world. Scott leaves behind a quietness in the garage where he was always helping others save a buck working on cars and a silence in our backyard that hurts deeply. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends, especially Silver Lake. He loved the dunes and always let others drive his truck. He'd shrug his shoulders if they scratched his truck and say "f-it" that's Scott! A caring giving soul with a heart of gold. Always putting others first and would help you in a heartbeat. He was a lot of people's go to person whether he helped them with their car or lending them a helping hand.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gordon Lubbers Jr; brother, Gordon Lubbers III; and mother, Carol Lubbers. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Lubbers; sons, Jason Lubbers, Nick Lubbers (Samantha Marvin); grandchildren, Emmalynn and Oliver; brother, Timothy Lubbers; sister-in-law, Kristy Lubbers and Kym McCambridge; brother-in-law, Bob McCambridge and Larry Vanbennekom JR; nephew, Gordon (Stacy) Lubbers IV, Dustin (Kristin) Styburski, Kyle (Juanita) McCambridge; nieces, Melissa (Ken) Koster and Jessica (Zack) Lubbers; great niece, Vanessa Scribner-Talamentez; great nephews, Lelynd Koster and Anthony Montijo.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, August 21  at  Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with Rev. James Ypma officiating.  Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, August 20 from 5-8 pm and one hour prior to the service at  the funeral home.

Leave Your Tribute
It's still doesn't seem real that you are gone man. I still remember hanging out by the pool staying up late and crashing on the basement couch like it was yesterday. Definitely one of the coolest parents I ever met. You will definitely be missed. R.i.p

Scott you leave behind a million memories for so many people , For me it was your kindness and your laugh .. Your laugh was one that when it was heard people knew it was you even when they didn’t see you enter a room .. Your kindness touched so many people Family, friends and strangers it didn’t matter to you a person was a person and that’s all that mattered I seen that pretty much every time I was in your department at Steelcase You’d jump right in to help someone struggling ..Also you never judged no matter what others would say and that was big to me Thank you for being you Rest in peace you’ll always be remembered…🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
